Working Student Electrical Engineering, Grid Connection & Battery Storage

Berlin
Teilzeit
Praktikum/Werkstudium

Your mission

You support our project team on the electrical side of our projects, from the first data a customer sends us to the grid operator's approval. You work with our Head of Projects and our senior engineers and take ownership of clearly defined work packages from day one.

What you will do

  • Grid applications. Prepare and submit grid connection requests (VDE-AR-N 4110 forms, data sheets, unit certificates, site plan, single-line diagram), answer grid operator questions and follow up until approval. Review connection offers, construction cost contributions and flexible connection agreements.
  • Electrical concepts. Draft single-line diagrams, metering and SCADA concepts and the control logic together with our engineers, for storage behind the meter, standalone and co-located with renewables.
  • Site feasibility. Assess connection capacity, connection point and required infrastructure from load profiles, our simulation tool and site visits.
  • Specialist engineering. Scope specialist work such as protection studies, grid calculations or earthing design, brief external engineering firms and steer them until the result is ready to build. A fast way to learn from the best in each field.
  • Make us faster. Turn whatever you do twice into a template, a checklist or an AI skill, so the next grid application goes out quicker.

Projects you could own

  • A map of free grid capacity across Germany, built from what grid operators publish and what we learn in our own applications, so we know where a battery can connect before the customer asks.
  • Standard single-line diagram drafts for our three project types that our engineers only need to sign off.
  • An AI-assisted workflow that builds the complete grid application package from our project data.

Who you are

  • You are at the top of your cohort. You study electrical engineering, energy engineering or industrial engineering with an electrical focus (Bachelor from the 3rd semester or Master), with grades you would put on the first page of your CV.
  • You have built something outside the curriculum. A startup or startup internship, Formula Student, a research project, a side project that shipped. You can explain what you decided and what came out of it.
  • You understand power systems in practice. You can read a single-line diagram, and low versus medium voltage means more to you than a lecture slide.
  • You are precise. Your documents get accepted on the first submission, and you notice the missing signature before the grid operator does.
  • German at C1 or higher, good English. You will be on the phone with grid operators and plant managers of German Mittelstand companies.

You will enjoy this if

  • you want to see your work turn into real storage projects connected to the grid,
  • you would rather fix a process once than repeat it ten times,
  • you want to be in the office with the team most of your working days.

You will not enjoy this if

  • you expect a predefined task list. We trust you to figure out the next step.
  • you are looking for a fully remote job. At this stage we work together in Berlin.

What we offer

  • Real work, no intern projects. What you prepare goes out under our name to grid operators, building authorities and customers.
  • Direct line to the founders and our Head of Projects. You sit next to the people who decide, and your ideas get tested the same week.
  • The tools to move fast. Claude and the AI tooling we build our workflows with. If something helps you work faster, we get it.
  • Flexibility around your studies. Hours that move with your exam phases, office in Berlin-Mitte, Urban Sports Club, regular team events.

How we hire

  • Intro call, 20 minutes. Who you are, what you have built, what you want to learn.
  • Case, 60 minutes. A real, anonymised problem from one of our projects.
  • Meet the team in Berlin. Decision within a week.

Diversity and Inclusion

We believe we can only build a strong company when different perspectives and backgrounds come together. That's why we welcome applications from everyone, regardless of nationality, ethnic origin, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, disability or any other personal characteristic. Our goal is a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected and empowered to do their best work. If you don't meet every requirement, apply anyway: your background might be exactly the perspective that makes our team even better.

Über uns

Most battery storage projects in Germany do not fail on the battery. They stall at the grid connection, the permit or the engineering in between. Scale Energy exists to remove those bottlenecks.

We are a Berlin team that plans, permits and delivers battery storage for industrial sites, solar and wind parks and utilities. We combine deep engineering know-how with AI-enabled workflows to take storage projects from the first idea to the grid connection faster and at scale. Backed by Climentum Capital, Vireo and Antler.
